THE DIVISION
The Housing division is thriving and carries out real estate transactions such as major development work, plot sales, right to buy, stair casing and shared ownership. It also has a very successful housing management department supporting housing associations with landlord/tenant matters.
THE ROLE
We are seeking a self-motivated and committed Licensed Conveyancer or Chartered Legal Executive to join our Asset Management team in our Manchester office. We require someone ideally with experience in property transactions including shared ownership staircasing, resales, lease extensions, Right to Buy/Acquire and ad hoc property matters. It is anticipated that in order to have the relevant skills and experience required for this role, the ideal candidate will have at least 2 years post-qualification experience, preferably within a leading housing or real estate practice.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The main duties will be to:
- Assisting with shared ownership staircasing, resales, lease extensions, Right to Buy/Acquire transactions;
- Assisting with sales of land, deeds of variation, buy-backs and ad hoc advice for clients;
- Maintaining and streamlining working procedures to enable a smooth delivery of service to clients.
- Regularly reviewing and updating workflow and case management systems to ensure they are reflective of current best practice as well as regulatory and legal changes
- Deal with complicated title, planning, estate management and infrastructure enquiries raised by buyers’ solicitors;
- Managing a caseload of difficult or sensitive cases;
- Provide on hand technical support to paralegals and transaction handlers to ensure that clients’ service deadlines for completions are met;
- Dealing professionally and articulately with client enquiries and communications, demonstrating at all times a sound understanding and knowledge of the nature of the client’s business and the relevant affordable housing product.
- To understand the ethos of the Housing sector and assist in the attainment of key performance indicators and other quality standards required by the Housing clients;
- Provide assistance to the Manager of the Asset Management team in supervising the team when needed.
- Establishing strong relationships with the team’s clients and being the escalation point for complex matters and ensuring that client requirements are properly implemented by the team.;
- Delivering training to clients and internally to team members; and
- Any other duties as reasonably requested.
SKILL SET
The successful candidate is likely to be in a similar role within a residential conveyancing, development, plot sales or generalist housing profession in either a legal or professional services environment (minimum of two years relevant experience preferred) and will ideally be able to demonstrate:
At least 2 years post-qualification experience, preferably within a leading housing or real estate practice;
- knowledge and understanding of affordable housing products, regulation and procedures, particularly in relation to shared ownership and equity; and
- Proven experience of handling his/her own residential conveyancing caseload (ideally in a new build environment). Particular knowledge and experience that would be beneficial for this role includes
- Substantial experience in residential property – both leasehold and freehold
- Mortgage lender requirements in residential stock;
- Investigation of title and reporting work;
- The ability to understand, use and contribute to the development of computerised conveyancing case management systems; and
- Previous experience of case management systems would also be helpful, although is not essential.
Candidates will be expected to be able to demonstrate that they have:

- the ability to draft documents to a high standard; the ability to work effectively as a team player
- are proactive and motivated;
- excellent communication skills;
- excellent organisational skills;
- excellent attention to detail; and
- Excellent IT skills.
